Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, Virtual Science Center leverages its deep connections to the tech community to develop inquiry-based, compelling experiences about emerging technologies.
We facilitate collaborations between industry experts, museum and science centers, educators, exhibit design teams and visitors. Our goal is to provide relevant, science-rich content while increasing museum attendance and inspiring more students to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering and math.
MEET THE TEAM
Meghan Lee is the visionary, co-founder, and Executive Director of Virtual Science Center (VSC). Positioning VSC as a disruptive force in the museum field, Meghan’s goal is to make hands-on learning about science and new technologies a life-transforming educational experience that is accessible to everyone. With over fifteen years of experience, Meghan has developed compelling, interactive science and traveling exhibits for some of the most prestigious museums in the country, including the California Science Center, Library of Congress, Great Lakes Science Center, and Experience Music Project. She was involved in bringing the first exhibition of Gunther Von Hagens’ BODY WORLDS to the United States, as well as Goosebumps: The Science of Fear, Magic: The Science of Illusion, and The Charles and Ray Eames Retrospective.
Virtual Science Center is co-founded and chaired by one of Silicon Valley’s leading technology creators, Brendan Iribe. Currently the Vice President of PC VR at Oculus, developer of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset, Brendan advises Virtual Science Center in technology-related content and development, sharing his unique expertise and insight. Brendan represents the industry side of Virtual Science Center’s collaborative model, reinforcing its connection with the tech community to create impactful, one-of- a-kind informal learning experiences.
Chief Experience Officer
Bill Meyer brings to Virtual Science Center’s Chief Experience Officer position a commitment to inspire audiences, sparking lifelong curiosity in science and new technologies, with the fun, relatable learning encounters he designs. As Director of New Media and developer of dynamic, inquiry-based learning exhibits at the Exploratorium for 11 years, Bill and his teams conceived and created over 100 engaging traveling and permanent science center exhibits for National Science Foundation-funded projects such as Science of Sharing, Mind, Listening, and Geometry Playground. Bill was also a co-principal investigator on the NSF “Indoor Positioning for Informal Learning” project, and has taught UX and exhibit design at NYU and General Assembly.
Megan Stewart comes to Virtual Science Center with 11 years of exhibition experience. She began her project management career at Discovery Cube Orange County where she worked on large scale events and exhibits, including a NASA/JPL Space Exploration exhibit, the 2013 Solar Decathlon and XPO, and Discovery Cube Los Angeles. Megan also worked at Group Delphi in Alameda, where she managed events and exhibits for Museums and Corporate clients, including the Randall Museum’s Wild in California exhibit, and the Golden State Warriors' Chase Center Experience. Megan was an ASTC Diversity Leaders Fellow in 2012, and is passionate about creating accessible and exciting STEM learning opportunities through hands-on exhibitions.
Board Vice President
Elizabeth Iribe joined the Board of Virtual Science Center in Fall 2015. An active philanthropist and education advocate, Elizabeth recently made a major gift to the Brendan Iribe Center for Computer Science and Innovation at the University of Maryland to establish two endowed chairs in Computer Science. Elizabeth has worked in the library and museum fields, collecting folk stories for the Smithsonian, driving a Bookmobile, and contributing to museums and cultural institutions in many ways. Elizabeth also introduced her son Brendan to the positive impact exhibitions and informal learning experiences make on visitors and their ability to inspire and educate.
Heather Birchall's primary role is to plan and manage the bookings for the exhibition tour, due to begin in 2019. Heather has an enormous passion for both STEM learning and the potential of VR and AR. Before moving to California in 2014, she held curatorial roles at the Victoria and Albert Museum Tate Britain and The Whitworth, University of Manchester. A specialist in Victorian painting and photography, Heather has contributed to numerous publications and developed many large-scale exhibitions. Her expertise in touring exhibitions in Europe and Asia is a tremendous asset to Virtual Science Center.
